grassy fields gave way to thick bushes

                and small trees with thorns.

   Thurston knew the way to go;

        and, while he was thinking about how far he had come,

            there suddenly appeared right in front of him

                        a big brown rabbit with a twitchy nose

                                and his paws on his hips.
